On Dec. 3, 2012, just over three weeks from Christmas day, the mercury soared with the arching sun, and resort guests, Pinehurst Country Club members and the lucky few who live in the Cradle of American Golf were treated to one of those signature days. Once could imagine James Walker Tufts himself feeling the December sun’s rays weave around these stately pines, giving him better than just cause to build the country’s signature golf resort.
